Where are crayfish found?

Freshwater crawfish are very ancient inhabitantsEarth, which appeared in the Jurassic period. These days they are settled throughout the planet and are found in many fresh water bodies. The habitat of crayfish greatly influences the rate of their growth and reproduction.

Many people think that crayfish are unpretentious in the surroundingenvironment, but this is not so! Crayfish can not breed in salt water, so the water in which they settle should be fresh. In the warm season, water for normalcy of crayfishes with a content of 5 mg / l oxygen in it is required. There is no particular difference in what kind of water - dark or light, the main thing is that the acid content is not too high, but the lime deficiency leads to a slowdown in the development of cancers. To the pollution of water, the crabs are very sensitive, but under favorable conditions they can live in almost any fresh water basin with running water, be it a river, a lake or even a stream.

Where do crayfish live?

Cancers settle on the hard bottom of the pond where there is no mud. The main condition is the opportunity to find a shelter or dig a hole, so it is difficult to meet crayfish on the muddy bottom or near sandy beaches. Find places where crayfish are found, you can have steep shores and in coastal pits where they dig their holes.

The depth of the places in which crayfish live, is infrom a half to three meters. Large strong males grab the best places, and weak males and females get less suitable. Young growth is mainly in shallow water, hiding under rocks, branches and leaves.

Hermit crabs

Crayfish are hermits and protect themselves evenfrom their relatives, spending all daylight hours in their holes, closing the entrance claws. It is noteworthy that outcrops often are hidden under rocks or tree roots. The burrows are quite close, the diameter rarely exceeds the size of the cancer itself, which makes it much easier for them to organize protection against a possible attack. Cancer reliably clings to the walls of the burrow, and this significantly hinders the path of the enemy, who was about to pull him out.

It is commonly believed that crabs are sedentarylife and do not go far from their homes, but the observations of scientists say the opposite. Crayfish caught and tagged in one part of the reservoir were found in a week later in another, which is more than a hundred meters away from the "house" of the cancer.
