What is the tone?
The word "tone" is of Greek origin (tonos)and literally means "stress" or "stress." There are several meanings of this word. We suggest to consider what tone is and what kinds of it are.
Tone in Painting
A tone is one of the main characteristicscolors. There are three in all: tone, lightness and saturation. The tone is determined by the peculiarity of the distribution of radiation in visible light. Most often in the visual arts under the word"tone" means simply the color saturation. In other words, darkness and lightness of any color. For example, there may be a light blue tone or a dark blue tone. The tone can be made lighter by adding more or less white paint or white. And also darken by mixing with another darker color. For example, if you add a brown to the yellow paint, then we get a darker tone of yellow. Example: "This picture is made in dark colors".
Tone in the music
In music, the tone refers to the sounds of a certainheights that are not noise. The tone can also indicate the nature of the sound of the instrument and be low, soft, gentle, rough and so on. High tones give more frequent fluctuations of air, and low ones - rare. Example: "This violin has a soft tone".
Other meanings of the word
The word "tone" also has other common meanings, such as:
- tone in medicine - the sound of a working heart: "Deaf Heart";
- tone as a hint of sounding human speech (haughty, high, low, variable, etc.): "Stop talking on elevated tones!";
