Redecorating your own home. Where to begin?
Each person, at least once in his life engaged in repair work, is well aware that redecoration is a very conventional concept. After all, the complexity and complexity of the planned work, called redecoration and the phrase put into it, will depend entirely on the initiators of this type of repair, the amount of funds they are willing to spend, and, of course, the amount of time that tenants are willing to spend on the implementation of all related to the repair work. Do not forget about one more thing - cleaning after repair or construction, as by law, you simply do not have the right to throw away construction debris. It is required to conclude an agreement with special services or companies.
You can get qualified specialists, for example, plumbers, tilers or electricians, to redecorate some areas of the house, which will save you enough time and nerves when doing repairs in the bathroom or kitchen.
Before you start repairing the house yourself, it is very important not only to determine the amount of work required, but also to divide all the work into specific steps.
When the family council or the owner of the house makes the final decision on the number of works in the course of redecoration, you can start preparing for work. At this stage, first of all, the room should be freed from furniture as much as possible, and the remaining pieces of furniture should be grouped in the center of the room and carefully covered with film. This is done in order to ensure the possibility of free access to the walls of the room around the perimeter, as well as access to the entire ceiling area. In the event that the floor covering is not planned to be changed, it is very important to protect it from possible mechanical damage and various construction debris. To protect parquet, laminate or carpet, you can use sheets of hardboard or clean and dry packaging cardboard, which is covered with a thick plastic film on top with an overlap of cloths of at least ten centimeters. To improve such protection against the ingress of dust and dirt, the joints of the panels can be well taped with adhesive tape.Very often during an event such as home renovation with your own hands, the greatest amount of garbage is concentrated around the perimeter of the room. Therefore, just in case, a protective film with adhesive tape can be glued and skirting.
Preparation for the repair of all working surfaces of the room begins with the dismantling of old coatings. Now the most popular type of ceiling covering can be called water-dispersion paint. She has long replaced the popular in the past lime wash. It should be borne in mind that this type of paint, like enamel, does not dissolve with water. That is why it is almost impossible to wash them off from the surface. To remove paint from the surface, it is enough to remove the peeling coatings with a steel trowel and to embroider all the cracks with the help of its angle. A layer of enamel can be removed using sandpaper - this method will increase the surface roughness and improve its adhesion to new layers of material.
Lime whitewash will be enough to wash off with water to the underlying layer of putty. Dismantling of old wallpaper looks like this: first you need to “peel off” the exfoliated fragments “in the dry”, and soak tightly glued areas with water and remove with a spatula. Some types of wallpaper, for example, "triplex", well removed, but leaves on the wall a thin layer of seamy paper. If the surface of the wall is fairly smooth and you plan to apply new wallpaper, you can leave this layer - new wallpaper will be perfectly glued to it.
Making repairs at home with your own hands, it is important to remember that oil enamel can be removed in two ways - chemical and thermal. In the first case, a layer of paint must be softened with a specially created chemical composition and removed with a spatula or scraper. For the second method, you will need to use a special construction dryer.
The next step is the preparation of all work surfaces for its finishing. At this stage, if necessary, primer and level with the help of putty ceiling and walls. Deep hollows and places with a plaster layer that have fallen off after priming are treated with cement-lime mortar. Is it worth it to completely putty the walls and ceiling, or limit the work on the alignment of individual sections, everyone decides for himself.
The further stages of redecoration depend on the exact solutions chosen to cover the surfaces. For example, painting the ceiling is best done preferably with a new paint roller with a pile of medium length. If indoors it is decided to glue the wallpaper, it is important to use specialized adhesives, which can be selected in many hardware stores. Before you begin to glue, you can apply a layer of glue, twenty to thirty percent diluted with water, on the surface of the wall. This will allow the new wallpaper to please the tenants with their views much longer.
