Painting the roof: how to paint a galvanized or metal roof
Surely, you will not be able to argue with the fact that in many respects the quality of painting of galvanized or metal roofs depends on the process of preparing the surface for subsequent painting. This process is based on cleaning from dirt, corrosion, old paint, repairing holes. All of the above should first be removed hard, and after a soft broom or brush.
The process of painting the roof is not simple, but the magazine "Repair Home" will give practical advice on how to properly and properly carry out the relevant work. So, for a start it is worth saying that the roof can be painted with various coloring substances. Choose the most appropriate of them, focusing on the possibilities of purchase, the aesthetic tastes of the consumer, as well as the suitability of the coloring matter for outdoor work.
If you are painting for the first time, then first of all you need to apply a primer. The first layer should be applied with a not too viscous material; this can be achieved by using more solvents. The first layer will fall evenly, thereby penetrating into all existing pores. If there are patches on the roof, then the pressure on the brush should not be strong so as not to bend the edges.
The process of coloring begins with descents, then it is necessary to move from the ridge to the slopes, causing the coloring matter along the slope. For flat surfaces, it is important to use a roller. As for the galvanized materials used for the roof, there is almost no sense to paint them. Let us explain why: zinc has a high chemical activity, when it interacts with enamel, zinc oil is formed, then the coating can begin to exfoliate. In addition, it is worth knowing that if you nevertheless decided to paint the steel sheet, it should be done no earlier than after 9 months - a year after installing it on the roof. The thing is that during this period a film of zinc salts is formed on the galvanized sheet, which subsequently protects the material from peeling.
The most acceptable time to paint the roof is autumn or early spring. Due to the appearance of dew, it is not recommended to perform staining in the evening and early in the morning. If the painting is done in the summer, then all work is better to be postponed for the second half of the day, when the sun is not so hot, and the roof has time to cool down a bit.
Do not forget about safety measures during the work. In order to preserve the paint layer and avoid its slipping, it is better to put on felt shoes or one with a soft rubber sole. If there are no fences on the roof, then it is better to be tied to beams, crates or rafters. It is forbidden to tie yourself to the pipes, and the stove pipes are no exception.
As you can see, the process of painting the roof is complicated, but properly planned tasks will be the key to successful work.
