Lakesmere wins contract to upgrade Southampton project
Lakesmere won a £ 5 million contract for a portion of the construction project for an entertainment project that will become part of the WestQuay shopping center in Southampton.
Thanks to this contract, the company that supplied materials for roofing and facing works in a shopping center 15 years ago will return to work in it.
Lakesmere is working with general contractor Sir Robert McAlpin on a project designed by ACME architects. At the first stage of the creation of WestQuay Watermark, it is planned to build a cinema with ten screens, restaurants and a spacious seating area for visitors.
Lakesmere performs design and exterior finishing work, including a weatherproof exterior facade, manufactured by a subsidiary of McMullen Facades. Lakesmere also deals with the roof, which is designed according to the requirements for sound insulation so as to reduce the noise from the cinema.
Before commencing work on the site, according to the contract, the Lakesmere technical team should be involved at an early stage to develop an initial building plan. Much work has been done on the design of a high-quality roof. In order to achieve the required level of 67dB noise reduction, Lakesmere will make a two-part roof that will be tested before installation on site. Lakesmere designers carried out calculations for building construction and worked closely with the supplier of flooring to make sure that the material is able to withstand the load and that the solar panels are installed on the prepared roof.
