Indoor begonia - reproduction of domestic begonias in many ways.
Today again we will return to a very unusual and beautiful flower - begonia.
In previous articles you have already been told of this plant, striking in its variety of colors and shapes.
And also that it will delight you with its ever-blossoming buds, striking with their beauty leaves. You can also learn about diseases, pests on flowers and how to deal with them.
Very often, when you see a plant that has hit you, you want to have the same on your windowsill, but it is not always that you can buy it in the store. Therefore, today we will talk about how to multiply begonia at home. There is nothing difficult here, I present some tips on how to do it correctly.
Flower breeding options:
Begonia can be propagated in several ways:
- bush or tuber separation
How to do this, you will learn, below.
Growing from seed
In order to grow a beautiful and healthy begonia from seeds, one must begin with their choice.
First of all, the period of seed packaging is important. It is best if the seed was harvested in the previous year.
Secondly, it is more convenient to plant granulated begonia seeds, but they emerge somewhat later un granulated.
We start landing.
Granulated seeds are more convenient and more correct to sow in peat tablets. To do this, soak the tablet in water and place a seed of the plant on top of each tablet. Powder or deepen the seed is not necessary!
Using a spray bottle, moisten the seed.
Since begonia likes a moist environment, cover the tablets with seeds with plastic cups, a transparent lid or film.
Shoots appear after about two weeks. Planting in peat tablets is also good because you pass the stage of picking a plant and avoid injuring a fragile and weak sprout.
Ordinary seeds sown in shallow boxes. The drawers must have drainage holes. Fill boxes or other prepared container with soil.
From above you can gently use a toothpick to place the seeds of begonia and sprinkle with water. Cover the container with film and place in a warm and bright place.Protect young shoots from direct sunlight.
Important! The soil should be light and breathable, moisture should not accumulate and stagnate.
Watering seedlings carried out below (through the pan) or drip method using a syringe or syringe.
When the third true leaf appears on the light, it is necessary to begin picking the seedlings. This process is painstaking and it is necessary to do a picking very carefully.
After about 2 weeks you can begin to harden the seedlings. To do this, begin to slightly open the film. Begin with 10-15 minutes daily, and gradually increasing the time and area of the opening of the film.
The seeds of the tuberous begonia are planted according to the same algorithm. Only the picking is carried out twice - after the appearance of the third true leaf and again in 3-4 weeks. Considering the fact that the formation of a tuber is a long process, it is necessary to start sowing seeds of the tuberous begonia in late February or early March.
Remember! Begonia is planted in a permanent place only after the risk of frost and cooling is completely gone!
Reproduction division of rhizome (tuber)
One of the ways of breeding begonias is dividing a bush (rhizome) and dividing a tuber.
If the bush begonia has grown heavily, and the old pot has already become small for it, you can propagate the plant by dividing the rhizome. Algorithm division of the bush.
Carefully remove the begonia from the pot and clean the rhizome from the ground
Sharp knife divide the bush into parts (the number of parts depends on the size of the bush).
Each part is planted in a separate pot (the size of the pot should be slightly smaller than the old one).
The point of growth should not be sprinkled with soil!
Water the planted bush, set in a warm and bright place.
Remember to avoid direct sunlight on the flower, maintain humidity and ensure timely (but without fanaticism) watering.
Tuberous begonia is also propagated by dividing the rhizome (tuber).
This procedure is done in the spring, when the begonia begins to wake up from the winter “hibernation” and releases several sprouts.
Important! In this way they divide the tuber of begonia, which is more than 2 years old, and preferably more than 3 years old. Then the tuber has sufficiently increased the horse mass, and the division will be less painful for the plant.
Share the tuber in the following way:
Using a very sharp knife, carefully and carefully cut off the kidney along with part of the tuber.
Sections must be treated with ash.
Prepared trimmed tubers are planted in a pot and sprinkled with soil, leaving part of the tuber on the surface. Cover the pot with the planted plant with a transparent container (it can be cut off with a plastic bottle). This creates a greenhouse effect and maintains normal temperature and humidity, then contributes to the rapid rooting of begonia.
After the plant has resumed growth, the rhizome (tuber) is completely covered with primer.
Reproduction by cuttings
This method of reproduction is suitable for any type of begonias and consists in the fact that a small cutting is carefully cut off from the plant and placed in water.
When the roots of his (stalk) are planted in a prepared pot of soil. The method of propagation by cuttings is simple, and even an inexperienced amateur grower can use it.
If you have not found a suitable process, you can propagate the begonia by cutting the leaf. In this case, a healthy leaf is selected (the leaf stalk must be long enough). It is carefully cut off, and also placed in a container with water. As soon as the roots appeared, the leaf is planted in the ground.
This breeding method is suitable for decorative - hardwood begonias.
It lies in the fact that new bushes of begonias are obtained by dividing the leaf of a plant.
This can be done in two ways.
Divide the sheet into several segments and plant each segment in the ground.
On the sheet make several cuts and put this sheet on the surface of the soil.
The pot with the planted leaves is covered with foil and placed in a bright and warm place.
After 2-4 weeks, there are roots and leaves can be planted in separate pots.
Dividing in this way allows you to quickly get several plants at once.
