# How to read the numbers?

Since primary school we know how to read numbers. But sometimes, when it comes to complex numbers, difficulties arise.

## How to read numbers in large numbers

In large numbers, to make it more convenient to read themname, and also remember, the values are divided into classes. To do this, the right side is divided into three numbers, each of which means the corresponding class - the first, second, third, etc., while the last class of the number may not have three digits, but only two or one. For example, among the 4,908,898 the first class is the numbers 898, the second - 908, and the third - 4.

In this case, the first classunits, tens and hundreds, the second - thousands, the third - millions, etc. This number is read, respectively, "four million nine hundred eight thousand eight hundred ninety eight."

## Roman numerals

The so-called Roman numerals, which in our daysmost often denote centuries, are read in exactly the same way as Arabic, but are denoted by other signs. From one to ten: І, ІІ, ІІІ, ІV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X. In this case, the numbers of a higher order are designated by another principle: 50 - L, 100 - C, 500 - D, 1000 - M When reading numbers, you need to follow the following rule: if a large number is in front of a smaller one, then they add up (VI = V + I = 6), and if after that - from a larger number you need to take less (IV = VI = 4).

Example of reading Roman numerals: XVIII - X is a dozen, V is five, I is one. It turns out that XVIII stands for ten + five + one + one + one = eighteen. Such figures are usually used to refer to the century. So, for example, the current age will be written like this: XXІ.
