How to make a Tesla coil?
In the late nineteenth century, the brilliant Serb scientist Nikola Tesla demonstrated to the world one of his inventions - a high-voltage resonant transformer.
What is a Tesla coil
The coil of Tesla, as already mentioned, istransformer, and the simplest, albeit non-standard model. If you carefully study how to make a Tesla coil, the assembly process will not present any difficulties. The key feature for the designer is that during operation of the transformer, lightning strikes him from all sides, which can be caught with his hands, feet and head and not even get burned. Attention - only discharges passing through the air are safe! On the other parts of the working transformer, a deadly voltage.
Tesla's coil will turn out by hand if you have:
- A long thin copper wire. Very long. The diameter is about a hundredth of a millimeter.
- A short thick copper wire. The diameter is about a centimeter.
- A conventional step-up transformer is 220 to 1500 volts or a voltage generator of one and a half thousand volts.
- The plastic tube is about 5 centimeters in diameter.
- High-voltage capacitor.
We are rolling a thick wire into a coil of sixturns with a diameter of ten centimeters. Put it aside - this is the primary winding. Next, a thin copper wire is wound on a plastic pipe, it should turn out about a thousand turns. If the equipment is available, it can be done manually. The voltage generator or a conventional transformer is connected to a coil from a thick wire through a spark gap (two electrodes on a dielectric stand with the possibility of adjusting the distance). A capacitor is connected to the circuit before the spark gap. Voilà! So the Tesla coil turned out at home. We apply voltage to the capacitor, it charges, but at some level of charge the air pierces, and we see a lightning in the arrester. Impressive sight. But do not leave the coil turned on for a long time. It strongly emits in a wide frequency range, for which it is possible to obtain a penalty from Rossvyaznadzor.
