How do I clean the disc?
In this article I will talk about how to clean harddrive, freeing up space on it. Also you will learn how to delete files without the possibility of recovery, and about what differs from cleaning the disk from formatting.
How to clean a disk using Windows tools
Delete unnecessary files can be producedin many ways, but the simplest of them is to delete using the pop-up menu. To do this, move the cursor to the file you want to get rid of, and then right-click once. In the menu that appears, select "Delete" and click the left mouse button. After that, confirm the deletion, and the file will be moved from the place where it was located to the trash. This operation can not be called the final deletion of the file, since the file from the recycle bin can be easily restored. To delete a file from the Recycle Bin, move the cursor over it and press the right mouse button. In the menu, select "Empty the Recycle Bin" and confirm the action - now the file is permanently deleted from your disk.
However, you can simplify the process of deleting filesfrom the system, by calling again the basket menu and selecting "Properties" there. In the submenu "Properties" you can set the maximum size of files and folders to be added to the trash (if the size exceeds the maximum, then the files and folders will be deleted without placing them in the trash), and also mark the corresponding items if you want to make sure that any files are deleted immediately the same without going to the basket. In addition, you can uncheck the last (the lowest) item - then the system will not ask you to confirm the deletion of files and folders from the computer's disks. However, I do not recommend you do this, because you can accidentally delete the desired file, and to restore it later, you will have to use special programs.
How to safely clean a disk from files
Many people probably know that even removing frombaskets - not final, and such files are still subject to recovery by special means. In order to reliably delete files without the possibility of recovery, I recommend you to use one of the special programs. For example, using the program TuneUp Shredder - part of the package TuneUp Utilities (the working version can be downloaded here - there are also later versions: he did not test, but those who wish can easily find them in the search). Install and run TuneUp Utilities and select the "Free disk space" section. Find the item "Reliably delete data". Select a category (files, folder or contents of the Recycle Bin), specify the path to the object to be deleted. In the same menu, you can also note that the file was deleted along with the data about it (date of creation, name, size, etc.), and also the disk space was erased, that is, any traces of the file or folder's presence were erased on your computer.
Click "Next" and get to the menu of the choice of methodremoval. If the file was too important and you want to ensure its maximum "invisibility", select the Gutman method and click "Next", and then confirm the deletion. After the end of the deletion, a window will appear confirming the end of the operation; press "Done" and exit. Checking with the help of special recovery programs shows that in the overwhelming majority of cases the files destroyed by the Gutman method can not be seen.
How to clean hard disk of unnecessary programs
Now let's talk about how to deleteunused programs from your computer. The easiest way is to open the "Start" menu, go to the "All Programs" menu and select the folder you are interested in. Usually these folders contain shortcuts for uninstalling programs (in programs in English it will be written "Delete" or "Remove", in German - "Deinstallieren", in French - "Désinstaller"). We click this item and confirm deletion.
However, in practice, a complete removal of the program allequally does not happen - there will be some files either in the program folder or in "My Documents". At best, there are entries in the registry, which can lead to various problems (for example, when you reinstall the licensed software). In addition, the registry also needs periodic cleaning for the normal operation of your computer's operating system.
In order to maximally clean discs fromfiles of the remote program, I recommend you use the tools of the same TuneUp Utilities. Open the menu "Optimize the system" in the program, find the item "Delete programs" and wait for the application to give us a list of installed programs. Now find in the list what you need to delete, double-click to open the delete menu and confirm. I also recommend that you pay attention to the right side of the menu: especially to the registry cleaning and deletion of non-working shortcuts (defragmentation is the topic of a separate article, so we will not talk about it here).
How to clear a disk space
We open TuneUp Utilities again and go intothe familiar "Free disk space" menu. Under the word "Clear hard drives" in the drop-down menu, select the disk with which we will work. The program will automatically find what you can delete. This (see menu items): unnecessary files, old backups and Windows functions. Unnecessary files most often mean different temporary files that the system creates for their needs, but forgets to get rid of them. Backups are created, for example, so that you can restore a working version of the operating system (or any program) in the event of serious errors or failures. However, the copies proposed by the program can be safely removed, since they are already obsolete and the system has a more recent version of the recovery point. Well, deactivation of Windows functions is, for example, disabling sleep mode, which will allow us to save a few gigabytes - you will agree, and indeed useful.
Deleting files and formatting
And finally, a few words about what cleaningdisk from the files differs from the formatting. Formatting is the process of marking the regions of a disk. Roughly speaking, when formatting, the original directories are created, where then, as in the library boxes, cards with information in the form of files will be placed. When formatting, most of the data stored on the hard disk can be irretrievably lost, so this process should be done with caution. For more information on how to format discs, read here. As for the deletion of files, no changes to the root directories occur, but some information is simply deleted from the media.
