The film "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" 2018
Terry Gilliam's main fantastic unfinished project, the film The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, will finally see the light in 2018. The exact release date in Russia and in the world has not yet been set, but the shooting is in full swing. Approximately by 2018, the finished tape will go to all cinemas.
|Production countries:||Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom|
Back in 2000, Gilliam tried to make a film under this name. At the same time, the idea has been spinning around him since 1990, although at that time it was not entirely clear what the film would tell and how to shoot it: it was rejected as “not removable”. But the tape failed to see the light then because of problems with the script and financing. Yes, and the performer of the main role had a health problem. Terry Gilliam postponed the project indefinitely, took up work on others, among which were the famous "Brothers Grimm" with Heath Ledger. And only in 2008, the director announced that work on the "Man" is resumed.But nothing happened again: due to financial difficulties, the project was postponed again.
There was even a separate documentary film about the film that was shot, which can be found online. Gilliam rewrote the script for his dream project over and over again. And in 2014, large-scale preparation for production began again. Funding was found, the new caste began to be selected. The project, which turned into a Hollywood myth, which was not destined to happen, has moved from the dead point. Shooting with the approved cast started on March 7, 2017. The network began to appear the first photos from the shooting, and hence the full trailer in Russian is not far off. It is hard to believe that after so many years, "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" will really come out on the screens. It remains to hope that everything will go according to plan and will not break at the last moment, as has already happened.
The plot of the movie
The plot of the film has undergone significant changes since the writing of the first script by the year 2000. Then it was planned to remove the history of the popodanets from the 21st century. The protagonist, Toby Grosini, got into the plot of 12th-century Spain, where he was confronted by Don Quixote and played the part of his loyal Sancho Panza.On the shoulders of the protagonist later responsible for finding the killer of the eccentric hidalgo. But by 2017, the summary has undergone some changes.
In the new version, all the same Toby Grosini is in Spain, where he is engaged in the filming of the commercial. He accidentally comes across one of the works of his student years, a film about Don Quixote. Memories attract the hero to one small Spanish village, where he falls into the past and also, as originally planned, is investigating the murder of Don Quixote. When the film comes out, the viewer will be able to plunge into the memories and the past with the character. The boundaries of fantasy and reality will be blurred. And the film will not be exactly like the original idea of Terry Gilliam, because the script to him corresponded again and again over the years.
