Dock joints will protect and decorate flooring joints
After laying the floor in all areas of the object, the question remains about the presence of gaps between the coatings in different rooms. To eliminate this functional defect, it is best to use spacing powders. The gaps between room covers are not an indication of poor performance. They are left to relieve tension after a change in microclimate. For example, the laminate is sensitive to changes in humidity and temperature, and under the influence of these factors can shrink or expand. If you do not leave gaps between the floor of the rooms, then as a result the parquet will creak, stagger and quickly deteriorate.
In order for the gaps to not spoil the appearance, it is necessary to install docking thresholds. Thanks to these elements, the joints between different floor coverings will be protected from damage and dirt. Brass, aluminum, wood, stainless steel, and plastic will serve as a suitable material for thresholds.
Types of docking thresholds
There are several options. The choice of one type or another depends on the material of the coating and on the presence of differences in the level of the floor. Experts determine 4 main types of thresholds:
- Leveling thresholds. The task of this type of construction is to make the transition between coatings of different heights smoother. Thanks to them, you can combine these types of materials like carpet and tile. Subsequently, we get a neat appearance, masking uneven edges and a convenient transition between the rooms. Allowable height range from 3 to 18 mm.
- T-molding.Used to mask the joint between the coatings at the same height. It perfectly connects parquet and laminate flooring, giving the floor a finished look. It has a T-shape, which combines the joints between the coatings. It can be straight or curved. The latter is heated with a special hairdryer before installation, so that the material becomes flexible.
- The final threshold.Fixes flooring at the entrance doors, stairs and balconies. Apply on surfaces with a significant difference in height. Beautifully completes the finish of one level and clearly marks the next surface.
- Leveling bridge for hard floors.Used for balancing the joint between the tree and tile. It has a beveled edge with a smooth transition from higher to lower coverage. It emphasizes the texture of the floor materials and makes the coating durable.
