Under the auspices of the IOC, the White Olympiad is held every four years. The 2018 Winter Olympics will be held in Pkhenchkhane (Korea). Preparing for the Olympics – 2018
The Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games met for the first time on October 19, 2011 to discuss the game plan and the construction of Olympic facilities. The IOC Coordination Commission visited Pyeongchang in March 2012. By that time, the Olympic Village was already being built. In June 2012, construction began on a high-speed railway line that will connect Pkhenchan and Seoul.
On June 27, 2014, a mascot competition was announced. It took place from September 15 to September 30, 2014. The official talisman of the Olympics in Pkhenchkhane will be the white tiger. The tiger in general, and the white one in particular, is closely related to Korean mythology and culture. He is the central figure of Korean folk tales and stands as a symbol of trust, strength and protection. The white tiger in Korea is considered a sacred animal.
How it all began: the choice of venue
The question of where the next Winter Olympics will be held was decided at the IOC session on July 6, 2011 in Durban. Applications Pkhenchkhan put up for participation in the Olympic Games 2010 and 2014. But despite the highest number of voters in the first round, the city lost in the last round with three and four votes, respectively. Phenchon Khan won the right to host the 2018 Winter Olympics already in the first ballot because he received 63 out of 95 votes, which gave the necessary majority to elect the host city.
Applications for the Olympics have filed three cities. The members of the IOC were elected between Munich, which eventually received 25 votes, Annecy, for which only seven participants voted, and Phenchhan. As a result, the question in which city the White Olympiad-2018 will take place, was decided in favor of Phenchkhan.
